Total BDS Seats in India – State-Wise – Private, Deemed and Government Seats

Hello Aspirants! Today, I am here to discuss the most frequently asked question by all of you planning to appear in the NEET UG counseling. So, you must be looking for the total number of BDS seats in India.

Well! Finding it isn’t difficult for anyone, but we understand that getting to know about all the 329 dental colleges under one roof is not convenient to find! Especially when precise information is needed!

I did my research about the exact BDS seat scenario in India and found that, although there are 329 dental colleges in India, only 315 are available for admission.

The few remaining colleges are either purely postgraduate colleges or de-recognized dental colleges. Here, you must note that the latter refers to colleges that have lost affiliation with the Dental Council of India (DCI).

Hence, first and foremost, you must learn about the recognition status of any college you are planning to attend for BDS. Your BDS college must be DCI-recognized because this directly impacts your degree. Now, first, let us understand the importance of the complete BDS seat matrix.

BDS Seats – Why This is Important?

The correct information about the total number of dental colleges and available BDS seats can make a difference in your NEET counseling. This can help you even gauge the chances of seat allotment. You can decide where to target for the BDS admission based on your rank.

This is extremely helpful for students from states with only a few or no dental colleges. Mostly, they have to plan for BDS admission in a foreign land. This information can guide you regarding which state or college will be convenient for you.

On the other hand, if you are planning for government BDS seats, you can evaluate the chances of getting the seat in your state or even in other states. With this, you can also decide which NEET counseling will be right for you to participate in.

Every NEET counseling you apply for will have certain registration and security fees. Certainly, you will save some money by avoiding participating in multiple counseling sessions. If you plan sensibly, there might not be a necessity! We have helped many students to get a BDS seat through one counseling session only.

Qualified students with lower ranks can also evaluate their outcomes at both private and deemed dental colleges. So, here is the complete information about the overall BDS seats and dental colleges in India.

If you are looking for information regarding admissions, then you can check the following articles:

• BDS admission in India.
• BDS course fees in private colleges.
• BDS fees in government colleges.
• BDS fee structure in deemed colleges.

How many total BDS seats are in India?

Of the total dental colleges in India, 60 are government and 269 are private dental colleges. A share of these private colleges is occupied by the 32 deemed universities in India for BDS. Overall, there are 28,038 recognized BDS seats in India. These include govt., private, and BDS seats in deemed colleges.

So, here are the complete college-wise and state-wise details of the total BDS seats in India. If you need information about seats in deemed colleges, then you can go through my detailed article about BDS seats in deemed universities.

The education standards and quality of a college are more important. I have come across many dental colleges that are not so exciting but provide excellent academics and facilities to their students. Surprisingly! I also found out that their alums are at par with those of the most popular dental colleges!

I have also gathered some facts from my overall experience as a dental student and a student counselor. This might help you too, so better not to skip it! When you plan your BDS admission, you should also consider factors such as your expected course fee and location.

If you can filter some options, search out more details about the colleges. You must check the DCI recognitions, University affiliations, accreditation, infrastructure, daily patient flow, faculty, and academic quality of the dental college.

These factors are very crucial to making the right choice and best choice for your BDS.

You should not compromise on any of these factors, so try to collect valid information or even try visiting. So, if not the top in best, at least choose a decent dental college for your BDS. Focus more on getting the best education and opportunities!
